This year PACT is providing 2 travel awards for Anesthesia Research Trainees to attend the PACT research meeting on June 19, 2025 in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Successful applicants will be required to present their research protocol or project to PACT members, and receive constructive feedback, guidance and encouragement. PACT meetings serve as an opportunity for networking with Canadian leaders in perioperative clinical trials.
THE AWARD: PACT will provide Return Economy Airfare to St. John’s from your home city, 2 nights in the Conference Hotel, and a per diem allowance of $75 for meals.
ELIGIBILITY: Application is open to any anesthesia trainee or graduate student involved in Anesthesia Clinical Research. Applicants must be enrolled or affiliated with a Canadian University Department of Anesthesia. In-person attendance at the PACT meeting by the Awardee and Supervisor is a mandatory condition of the award.
APPLICATION PROCESS: Applicants are required to submit a 2-page abstract including the following headings: Title, Hypothesis, Background Information, Objective, Trial Design, Study Population Outcome Measures and Sample size and Expected Outcomes. Please submit 2 abstracts – one with your name and institution, and a second blinded abstract (without contact information) to Sarah Russell (CanadianPACT@gmail.com). The applicants are required to supply contact information and a letter of support from the project supervisor and/or Department. The letter of support is integral to the review process. The assessors are looking for the personal characteristics of the trainee, their creativity, intuition, and any research training. We are also interested in the research environment, departmental resources and time commitments. The PACT executive steering committee expects supervisors and/or mentors to be present at the PACT meeting to participate in the post-presentation discussions and hopefully becoming active, participating PACT members.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 1, 2025
Applications will be adjudicated blindly by 3 members of the Protocol Review Committee of PACT. Awardees will be notified April 30, 2025.
